The Expected Value MCP

Free and member access

Daily EV is free and does not require an account or key. Premium MCP pricing, history, and Magic sales-activity tools require an eligible MCP Data Access membership. Website-only ProTools or Manafolio access does not by itself unlock premium MCP tools.

Use the client's secure account-linking screen for ChatGPT or Claude. Never paste a password, personal key, or token into a conversation. Existing compatible MCP clients can continue to use personal keys through Manage MCP server access.

Connect Claude: recommended setup

1. Install The Expected Value from Claude's plugin directory. The plugin README and ZIP releases are also available for manual installation.
2. Open the plugin's Connectors tab and choose Connect.
3. Use Daily EV without signing in. When you request premium pricing or private Manafolio data, follow Claude's sign-in prompt, sign in to TEV and review the requested permissions.

Use automatic OAuth setup. You do not need a personal key, request header, client ID or client secret. Direct Manafolio changes require a separate write-consent checkbox.

Without the plugin, add https://mcp.theexpectedvalue.com/mcp/claude as a custom connector with automatic OAuth setup. Like ChatGPT, this connection supports Daily EV, pricing research, and permission-scoped Manafolio access. Client-specific tool names and counts can differ. The plugin adds three workflow skills.

If you already have a working personal-key connection, keep it while Claude is busy and switch when convenient. To upgrade a pricing-only OAuth grant, reconnect and approve the added permissions; existing grants never gain access automatically.

Personal-key fallback

Use this pricing-only method only when you need a custom connector with request headers. It does not access or change private Manafolio holdings.

1. Generate your personal key at Manage MCP server access.
2. Add a custom connector in Claude web or Desktop with URL https://mcp.theexpectedvalue.com/mcp and choose No sign-in.
3. Add a request header named Authorization. When your new key is shown, use Copy complete Authorization value on the TEV access page and paste it into the value field, even if masked. For a key you already saved, enter Bearer YOUR_KEY with one space after Bearer, without a plus sign or quotes.
4. Save it and enable it in a chat. Check for read-only pricing tools, then request an exact sealed product's price and observation date.

Enter the key only in the connector's header settings. No sign-in does not make TEV anonymous; the header authenticates your requests. Use Authorization for Claude: nonstandard header names require Anthropic approval. Request headers may not be available on every Claude account.

If the connection fails, check the URL and header formatting. To test basic connectivity separately, add https://mcp.theexpectedvalue.com/mcp/daily-ev with No sign-in and no headers; it exposes one free Daily EV tool. For support, send the error reference and time with your key fully hidden.

This connector provides member pricing, price history, and available Magic sales-activity data. It does not access or change your private Manafolio holdings. Results you request are shared with Claude and subject to its privacy practices.

Personal-key connections remain pricing-only. Neither connection executes actual purchases, sales or payments.

Your Manafolio permissions

Pricing permission does not share your portfolio. Separate read permission lets the linked client retrieve your holdings, costs, dated valuations, and MCP change history. Separate write consent allows direct updates that you request: adding or editing holdings, deleting lots, and recording completed sales or openings. The integration does not execute purchases, sales, or payments.

Portfolio tool results go to the client you connect, such as ChatGPT, and are subject to that client's privacy practices. Notes, storage locations, vendors, and tags are excluded from the holdings projection.

Disconnect and roll back

Disconnect a linked client at Manage MCP server access. This stops future authorized requests; it does not erase data already delivered to that client or undo completed changes.

Review and undo eligible updates in MCP change history, including after disconnecting. A rollback will not overwrite later conflicting edits. Undo newer MCP changes to the same holding first. Historical daily portfolio snapshots are not rewritten.

If a write times out, check the change history before retrying. A retry must reuse the same request identifier and payload to avoid duplicates.

Understand the data

Keep each result's observation date, currency, coverage, and model exclusions. Stale or missing observations are not current quotes or zero prices. Sealed-price observations do not prove retailer stock, shipping costs, or obtainable offers. Expected values and sales-activity scenarios are not guaranteed returns or personalized financial advice.

Support and privacy

Email contact@theexpectedvalue.com with the tool name, time, and sanitized error. Do not send passwords, access keys, tokens, or unnecessary portfolio details.
